FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

What is QASQAS is an engineering testing laboratory in Kenya

QAS stands for Quality Assurance Systems Ltd

QAS provide Testing and Inspection services in the following sectors:

  • NDT – Non destructive testing
  • Weld (WPS/WPQR) qualification test
  • Compression testing
  • Hydrostatic test (leakage testing)
  • Pressure vessel & engineering inspection
  • Quality Assurance and expediting
  • Third party quality audit and expert witness
  • Protective coating test
  • Calibration services
  • Noise mapping

QAS LTD is accredited in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025. QAS comprises a highly professional team of qualified engineers, engineering technologists, inspectors and non destructive testing technicians.

The combination of these professionals from different speciality areas ensures that clients are served by implementation of the most cost effective inspection regime that will comply with regulatory requirements.

WHAT IS CALIBRATION?

Calibration is a comparison between measurements – one of known magnitude or correctness made or set with one device and another measurement made in a similar way as possible with a second device.

To improve the quality of the calibration and have the results accepted by outside organizations it is desirable for the calibration and subsequent measurements to be “traceable” to the internationally defined measurements units.

Establishing traceability is accomplished by a formal comparison to a standard which is directly or indirectly related to national standards (KEBS in the KENYA), international standards, or certified reference materials.

Quality Management Systems call for an effective metrology system which includes formal, periodic and documented calibration of all measuring instruments. ISO 9000 and ISO 17025 sets of standards require that these traceable actions are to a high level and set out how they can be quantified.

TRAINING DIVISION IN NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING
QAS provides Non-Destructive testing and training services.
COURSE FEES
Fees mentioned are for implant training or at QAS LTD PREMISES.
We offer NDT training in the following fields:-

RADIOGRAPHIC TESTING
INTRODUCTION
Involves use of penetrating gamma X-radiation to examine parts and products for imperfections .An x-RAY machine or radioactive isotope is used as a source of radiation. Radiation is directed through apart and onto film or either media. The resulting shadowgraph shows internal soundness of the of the part. Possible imperfections show up as density changes in the same manner as X-ray shows broken bones.
OBJECTIVES
This course is designed to provide the participants with an understanding of the fundamental theory and applications radiographic Testing.
COURSE CONTENTS:
LEVEL I

  • Introduction to radiography
  • Introduction to ionizing Radiography
  • Radiation Safety
  • X-ray Equipment
  • Gamma ray source Equipment
  • Radiographic Films Intensifying screens
  • Producing the Radiographic image
  • Film processing

PRACTICAL

  • Set up the equipment, expose a sample, develop the film and interpret the results

LEVEL II

  • General theory
  • Radiography formulate
  • Factors affecting image quality
  • Radiographic Interpretation
  • Reading Radiography
  • Radiographic Terminology
  • Metal Fabrication
  • Casting processes/Discontinuities
  • Welding processes/Discontinuities

PRACTICAL

  • Perform a test using a technique sheet compiled by the candidate
  • Compile a written instruction and record the findings of the test
  • Set up the equipment, expose a sample, develop the film and interpret the results

TARGET GROUP

  • Welding technician
  • Welding supervisors
  • Welding engineers
  • Welders

EXAMINATION

  • At the end of the training programme, the participants are required to take up an examination both in theory and practical as recommended by SNT-TC-IA.Successful candidate are eligible to be certified by the employer as level I&II in RT.

COURSE FEES:
Kshs 50,000.00+VAT
DURATION
One week for each level
RADIOGRAPHIC FILM INTERPRETATION
INTRODUCTION
Radiograph interpretation is art not easily translated into formulate or routine procedures. As a result of the variety of conditions encountered in the interpretation of radiographs this art is subject to much controversy exists primarily as a result of lack of practical knowledge. This lack of practical knowledge is demonstrated by the complacency with which in experienced personnel are entrusted with radiographic interpretation.
OBJECTIVES
This course is designed to provide the participant with the knowledge of how to interpret film.
COURSE CONTENTS:

  • Basic Radiographic principles
  • Radiographic techniques
  • Radiographic viewing
  • Manufacturing process associated defects
  • Evaluation of castings weldments
  • Standards, codes and procedures for radiography

TARGET GROUP

  • Welding technician
  • Welding supervisors
  • Welding engineers

COURSE FEES:
Kshs 25,000.00+VAT per person
DURATION
3 days
